Progressive Farmer’s Chris Clayton reported that “invoking the Defense Production Act, President Donald Trump on Wednesday designated glyphosate-based herbicides and elemental phosphorus as critical to national defense and ordered Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to prioritize and secure domestic supplies.”

“The order also grants legal immunity to domestic producers that comply with federal directives and gives USDA authority to direct production and control distribution if necessary,” Clayton reported. “Citing the Defense Production Act, Trump declared phosphorus and glyphosate products are essential not only for agriculture but also for military readiness as well. The threat of scarcity for either phosphorus or glyphosate would leave the U.S. vulnerable.”

Glyphosate is an herbicide that has been linked to cancer and other diseases. Many people choose organic products to avoid glyphosate and other chemicals.

In a sweeping executive order, President Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to secure domestic production of elemental phosphorus and glyphosate-based herbicides, formally elevating them to national defense priorities. The executive order will protect companies from liability for actions taken in compliance with federal directives.

Glyphosate is also used as a desiccant to dry wheat and is sprayed directly on the crops just before harvested – it goes straight into our bodies. RFK, Jr, the head of Health and Human Services, vowed to ban this practice. Kennedy said that Bayer/ Monsanto RoundUp herbicide has other toxic ingredients that allow the glyphosate to penetrate the blood–brain barrier.

Shockingly, much of our exposure comes from its use as a desiccant on wheat, not as an herbicide. From there it goes straight into our bodies. My USDA will ban that practice.
